the Inflammation Release Technique
The technique Ms. Spencer has developed is based on years of hearing clients accept chronic pain as a consequence of getting older. Spencer conducted a multitude of case studies and experiments to test if that theory rang true. It did not. She soon realized that chronic pain is more a result of lifestyle and, an accumulation of inflammation in the muscle tissue.
Spencer found that if you address the entire muscles inflammation, by breaking it down through a light pressured approach, the body would do what it is designed to do naturally ~ heal. Inflammation Release Technique ®, rather than looking at the site of the pain, looks at surrounding fascial restrictions and addresses their relationship to the inflammation and omits the pain response. Once the surrounding muscles' fascial restrictions are broken down, the pain response is eliminated, and the affected tissue returns to a state of health.
Understanding these concepts helps explain why typical trigger point work does not always produce 100% recovery. Resetting the nerve doesn’t always work. Where there is inflammation, blood and oxygen do not perfuse as they should. Anything less than a complete break down of the adhesion can allow more inflammatory mediators to go to the site. The more adhesive they become, the more stiffness and more recurring pain is felt, eventually resulting in constant pain. The longer it is ignored, the more inflammation migrates, like a backed up drain, spreading based on the original site of the trauma.
Ms. Spencer’s approach goes to the root of the problem. Her understanding of muscle groups and the inflammatory response, in partnership with the patient, allow her to systematically remove the causes of pain, disassembling the conditions which fostered the pain originally. As mentioned previously, where a pattern of movement creates injury, a repetitive movement creates re-injury.
This technique is a holistic, non-invasive approach and could potentially be used in lieu of medicines, steroids and more invasive methods often recommended by doctors and therapists.
